These are some looks from Fall 2008. In these designs you can easily see the parallel between Robert Geller and the brand Cloak.. (which Geller worked with Alexandre Plokhov to help revamp the now out of business label).

Really looking forward to seeing his new collection this September.

LEATHER X PORTEUR BICYCLE

Photobucket
Photobucket

The Leather X Porteur bicycle covered in saddle leather is a one-off project from French designer Nicolas Yvars that's handmade using vintage parts. Yvars tells BikeRadar.com the beautiful bespoke conveyance combines his three passions – "leathercraft, street fashion and luxury" – and is modeled on a type of bicycle once used by newspaper sellers in Paris. It took him more than a year to track down the parts which he assembled himself, outsourcing only the frame painting and wheelbuilding. Bespoke touches include a hip flask attachment under the saddle and hand-stitched detailing on the leatherwork. Yvars says he has no plans to produce the bike, which combines great looks with agility and comfort, but is using it to promote his marketing company, Ateliers d'Embellie. However with think that demand for the Leather X Porteur might turn out to be so great he'll consent to assemble others for the right price.

Chanel has started a Russian revolution. Its new 'Paris-Moscow' collection combines everything from cossack to Dr Zhivago inspirations. The collection is part of a regular Metier d' Arts initiative which brings together the best handcrafts Paris has to offer; Lesage for embroidery, Lemarie for feathers and camellias, Massaro for shoes, Goossens and Guillet for costume jewellery, and Michel for hats, combined with the couturier and designer, Karl Lagerfeld's skill for turning a theme into an instant, status, must-have.

VINCENT CASSEL AS MESRINE

Photobucket

Jacques Mesrine was an architecture student from a middle-class family who went off to fight in the Algerian War while a teenager, and returned in 1959 with a lust for violence that only a criminal lifestyle could satisfy. In the early 1960s he re-invented himself as a flamboyant villain, the kind of man who would hold up a bank on one side of the street and then, with the police sirens hee-hawing ever closer, stroll across the road to rob another. It was a cop-baiting coup he pulled off on numerous occasions on his way to being declared by the French authorities as public enemy number one, a title he bore with undisguised delight.
Mesrine was also, as one police detective put it at the time, 'a gangster with marketing savvy’. Even while in hiding from the police after his dramatic 1978 escape from La Santé maximum security prison in Paris, he would invite journalists over and feed them home-cooked dinners, fine claret and self-aggrandising stories. He became something of a cause célèbre, first for left-wing intellectuals – Jean-Paul Sartre endorsed Mesrine’s campaign for prison reform, which eventually led to the abolition of solitary confinement in France – and later for disaffected youth, who still today incorporate his name into rap lyrics.

The custom motorbike (above) was commissioned by the French fashion house for a photo shoot staged at Chanel's Rue Royale boutique in Paris by the label's kingpin Karl Lagerfeld and starring super-sexy model Lara Stone - check out her cover story in the August issue of W magazine. Based on the bike used by legendary actor Marlon Brando in The Wild One, the motorcycle was custom made in Toulouse, France. Sadly, there are no plans to put the bike into production.

The newest collection to emerge on the menswear scene is Lord and Taylor's Black and Brown 1826. Catering to just that demographic of newly enthusiastic male consumers that want fashionable clothing without the caddish demeanor that comes from the more avant garde in the movement, Black Brown 1826 suits (literally and figuratively) a wide variety of men. It contains many of the most important menswear trends such as natural country style fabrics and textural finishes.

Jane Elfers, President CEO of Lord & Taylor, said of the name: "Black Brown are representative of great men’s colors: street smart country wise. And 1826 is the date in which Lord & Taylor was founded." According to the press materials, Black and Brown is a modern lifestyle collection inspired in classic Americana but with elements for the modern man. Bearing an elegant label, it consists of both collection and classification sportswear as well as dress furnishings, tailored clothing and key item programs for cashmere and merino sweaters.
